Course Overview
The Avelo Pro Instructor Course blends online learning, in-person academics, and open-water performance. Across 3–4 days, you’ll refine your system knowledge, practice teaching presentations, and demonstrate all required Avelo skills under the supervision of an Avelo Instructor Trainer.
Course Highlights
Day 1: Audit a Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) course
Day 2: Theory presentations and afternoon dives focusing on skill circuits and rescue scenarios
Day 3: Academic presentations and open-water teaching practice
Day 4: Written final exam and evaluated teaching presentations
Prerequisites
Be an active and insured Open Water Scuba Instructor (or equivalent)
Complete the required swim test:
400 m swim in under 15 min
10-minute tread (final 2 min hands out of water)
Have completed at least 10 Avelo dives
Avelo Instructor candidates must:
Have a minimum of 20 of the following certifications:
OW certifications count 1:1 (10 minimum)
DSD/Try or the equivalent count 4:1
Have a current (within a year) Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire and Diver Medical Physician's Evaluation Form signed by a qualified medical professional even if there are not any "yes" answers
What's included
Online eLearning (5-6 hours), in-person training, including academic sessions, “diver in the street” presentations, and in-water sessions
In-person training sessions (2 days)
Classroom
Participate in academic presentations presented by the Avelo Instructor Trainer
Perform the full RAD briefing (including equipment set-up)
Practice roll play “diver in the street” presentations
Prepare Open Water Presentations
In-water
Perform the Buoyancy Check skill
Perform all of the additional RAD skills
Practice an open water presentation including Briefing, Problem Solving, and Debriefing
Practice/perform rescue skills (unconscious diver on the bottom and panicked diver on the surface)
In-person exam (1 day)
Take a written final exam
Perform role play “diver in the street” presentations
Perform an open water presentation including Briefing, Problem Solving, and Debriefing
