Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD)

Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) is a specialty course that teaches certified divers how to dive using the Avelo System. You’ll learn to manage buoyancy with water rather than air, reduce task loading, and achieve greater stability and control underwater. Combining online learning with two instructor-led dives, the RAD course builds confidence and helps divers maximize comfort, efficiency, and enjoyment on every dive.

Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) Course

The Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) course is Avelo’s specialty program designed to teach certified divers how to dive confidently using the Avelo System. This course introduces water-based buoyancy control, helping divers reduce task load, improve stability, and enjoy a smoother, more intuitive underwater experience.

Through a combination of online learning and two instructor-led dives, the RAD course builds comfort and confidence while allowing divers to fully experience the benefits of the Avelo System. The course is available at Avelo Dive Centers worldwide.

Your RAD course package includes:

Course Components

eLearning (1–2 hours)

The online learning portion builds on your existing scuba knowledge with content tailored specifically to the Avelo System. You’ll learn the principles behind water-based buoyancy, how it differs from traditional air-based BCDs, and how Avelo simplifies buoyancy control, enhances safety, and reduces overall task loading—regardless of your experience level.

After completing the eLearning, you’ll have 90 days to finish your in-water training at any participating Avelo Dive Center. If additional time is needed, you can refresh your knowledge by retaking the quizzes to extend your access.

In-Water Training (2 Dives)

Complete two open-water dives with an Avelo-certified instructor, where you’ll practice essential skills and procedures for safe, controlled diving with the Avelo System. Once all performance requirements are met, your instructor will issue your Recreational Avelo Diver certification.
