Teach Avelo
Take the next step in your diving career by becoming an Avelo professional. After completing the required prerequisites, enroll in the Avelo Pro course to qualify as an Avelo Instructor or Instructor Trainer. Training is available exclusively through authorized Avelo Dive Centers worldwide.
Avelo Instructor
Qualified Avelo Pro candidates can become certified Avelo Instructors in as little as three days after completing all prerequisites. Once certified and affiliated with an authorized Avelo Dive Center, instructors are approved to teach Avelo courses and introduce divers to a safer, more intuitive approach to buoyancy and underwater exploration.

Candidates must meet the following requirements before enrolling:
Be an active open-water scuba instructor and carry professional liability insurance where required
Provide proof of swim competency (details provided by the Instructor Trainer):
400-meter swim completed in under 15 minutes
10-minute tread, with the final 2 minutes hands out of the water
Log a minimum of 10 Avelo dives
Submit a current (within 12 months) Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire and Physician’s Evaluation, signed by a qualified medical professional, even if all answers are “no”
Hold at least 20 qualifying certifications, including:
Open Water certifications (minimum of 10, counted 1:1)
Discover Scuba Diving / Try Dive (or equivalent), counted 4:1

What’s Included
Online eLearning (approximately 5–6 hours)
In-person instruction, including classroom sessions, presentations, and in-water training
In-Person Training (2 Days)
Classroom Sessions
Attend academic presentations led by an Avelo Instructor Trainer
Deliver the complete Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) briefing, including equipment setup
Practice role-play “diver in the street” presentations
Prepare and refine open-water teaching presentations
In-Water Sessions
Demonstrate the Avelo buoyancy check skill
Perform all required RAD skills
Conduct an open-water teaching presentation, including briefing, problem-solving, and debriefing
Practice and perform rescue skills, including:
Unconscious diver at depth
Panicked diver on the surface
In-Person Examination (1 Day)
Complete a written final exam
Perform role-play “diver in the street” presentations
Deliver a full open-water teaching presentation, including briefing, problem-solving, and debriefing
Post-Course Requirement
After certification, new Avelo Instructors must teach their first four Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) courses at a 1:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

Academic Sessions
Unlimited, provided facilities, materials, and time allow for thorough and complete instruction.
In-Water Training
Maximum ratio of 1:6 (Avelo Instructor Trainer to Avelo Pro candidates). Ratios may be reduced at the Instructor Trainer’s discretion based on conditions.
